Dogpatch is coming along

Our up-and-coming neighborhood is finally, well, coming. In the past few months we have seen the opening of a cheese shopjuice bardessert restaurant and climbing facility all within a block of us. We love to see the growth continue with the addition of something that we both love: art. The Museum of Craft and Design opened up this past weekend across the street from our house (literally, you open our front door and it’s there!).

Museums are such a great, affordable way to experience your neighborhood and get some culture in your life. You may not always love the art, but I’ve always loved that no matter your taste, a museum is always good for sparking both conversation and creativity. This museum in particular has a craft spin to it, so we weren’t sure to expect. While some of the art was a bit too crafty and abstract for my taste, I really loved the Arline Fisch and Rebecca Hutchinson exhibits (pictured above). I would gladly make a room in my future dream home for Fisch’s Creatures from the Deep; it reminds me of that room in the Monterey Bay Aquarium with the jellyfish. So. Peaceful.

While we got in for free as part of the grand opening day festivities, admission is cheap: $8 for adults and $5 for children.

We are still waiting for the opening of Magnolia Dogpatch though. That will be the cherry on top.
