Frugal Friday: Earth Day Freebies

April 22, 2011

(For those of you who are wondering what Frugal Friday is all about, here you go: Each week I provide some easy tips to help you save money over the weekend. If you are anything like me, you tend to spend the majority of your funds Friday through Saturday. Hopefully these Frugal Friday tips will help you save a few bucks.)

It’s Earth Day, and I am a fan of the environment, so: Happy Earth Day! As I’m sure most of you already know, Starbucks is giving away free cups of coffee today to folks who bring in their own cup. So dig out that travel mug and stop by your nearest store.

For those of us who don’t like to drink coffee, or who already use our travel mug everyday, here are some other deals going on in honor of Mother Earth:

  • It’s still National Park Week, so celebrate Earth Day surrounded by, well, earth. See last week’s Frugal Friday post for the deets.
  • Lowe’s will be giving away 1 million trees on Saturday, April 23 to celebrate the day of the earth. So if you are lucky enough to have your own yard, go get one.
  • You can also get a super cute Disney reusable tote today. Just go into any Disney store with 5 plastic shopping bags to exchange it. (Love this one because I love reusable bags!)
  • Send a friend a free Earth Day e-card from World Wildlife Fund.
  • And my favorite deal of the day: Download the Locavore app for iPhones and Androids for FREE! Normally $2.99, this app will help you find your nearest farmer’s market and what locally grown fruits and veggies are available in  your area.

Let me know what you did to celebrate Earth Day. I am always looking for ways to be a better visitor on this planet.

Oh, and one last thing: Happy Birthday to fellow blogger and amazing friend, Amy.
