Dinner & A Movie & A Giveaway

September 2, 2009

Who doesn’t like going out for dinner and a movie? I know I do. Although, I will admit that my strict budget and need for a good deal keeps me from going to the movies less and less these days; it’s unfortunate, but true. For those of you who are still going out for dinner and a movie, or want to get back in the habit, I have a deal for you!

I recently found out about a promotion that McCormick & Schmick’s is doing. It’s called Reel to Reel. The seafood restaurant is well-known for their happy hour steals, and this promotion proves they know how to reach the deal-lovin’ foodies. Now through September (or while supplies last), if you buy any dinner entrée at McCormick & Schmick’s, you can add a movie ticket to your check for only $5! The movie tickets are good for all the movies, so this is a perfect chance to catch some of the summer blockbusters for a great price. And, the tickets are generally good for at least a year, so you don’t need to use the movie tickets the same night you go out to eat.

To help get this party started, I am giving away a $25 gift certificate for McCormick & Schmick’s to a lucky blog reader. If you read my last post, you know how I feel about these types of giveaways. Let’s see what you have learned!

To enter you will need to do two things before midnight on Thursday, September 10:
1. Leave a comment about one of three things: a good deal you got recently, your favorite McCormick & Schmick’s experience or the best movie you have seen this summer.
2. Send an e-mail to whatsmydeal@gmail.com with “Reel to Reel” in the subject line.

For those of you in the Sacramento area, there are a couple of locations:
Sacramento: 1111 J Street Sacramento (tickets good at Regal Natomas Marketplace)
Roseville: 1194 Roseville Parkway (tickets good at Century Roseville 14)

For everyone else, check the web site for a location near you.

And for the true movie buffs, go to the McCormick &Schmick’s web site and enter to win a VIP trip for two to the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. You know I did. I am already envisioning myself having a cocktail with Robert Redford.

I am five months pregnant so I am in the market for work maternity wear. This last Saturday I stopped by JCPenny’s and found buy one get one for $.88, yes 88 cents! I bought a very nice pair of work pants that I actually have on today.

My best recent deal was free Viviano smoothies from Starbucks. They sell for almost $4. My sister e-mailed me a coupon good until Sept. 30 so I’ll continue to share it with family and friends! As you have said in your blog, there aren’t many things around that are absolutely free these days. Just think of all those bucks we have collectively spent at Starbucks within our lifetimes! It’s a nice way for Starbucks to give us something to enjoy back, even if it IS for promotional reasons! The coupon also includes half priced smoothies.

Fav movie? Julia & Julia … loved seeing it with my Mom and, after having read Julia’s biography and the book the movie was based on … was *not* disappointed. Looking forward to adding it to my personal movie library.

Dim sum in San Francisco for $10 per person. Great little place in an alley off of Sacramento St. about 1 block from Grant. My sister, brother-in-law, their grandson and I had a feast of about 7 different dishes and tea.

One dollar DVD rentals from redbox are the loves of my life. redbox carries all new releases along with old favorites. There are dozens of locations around town that have this red box, mostly grocery stores. You can pick up the DVD from one location and even return it to any location.

Also, online, you can find exactly what store the DVD you want is currently available at, in realtime, reserve it and then pick it up. I haven’t tried this since it evolves slightly more effort, although it does gaurantee you’ll get the movie you want.

One new release DVD. One night. One dollar. Awesome.
